Chronological Sentence for 30 December 2008

And some among the Gods and Goddesses came to care more about power than about the developing Universe over which they had been given stewardship.

Tim Linden Blog and Traffic Exchanges

http://TwitPWR.com/…indenblog/ Tim Linden is the owner of Start Xchange. If you use traffic exchanges, he certainly has the expertise to share.

Personally I'm a bit discouraged on the whole affiliate marketing thing right now so I haven't been using traffic exchanges. They aren't good for promoting things like fiction, although I will probably come back to using them for promoting the activist stuff.

A Necessary Sacrifice

Two things prompted a decision that's been needing to come for a while. The first and more constructive one is advice that one person was giving another, but it actually had "me" written all over it. The advice was

"you should take a look at the absurd list of tasks you have created for yourself."

I did, and my list is indeed absurd. People with bipolar disorder have a tendency to do this kind of thing to themselves. We throw ourselves headlong into anything that seems like a good idea at the time without really thinking it through and then hate ourselves for failing.

My list includes working on my second book, tending to an official website and blogs and such to promote the first book, being the administrator for a new social network and Twitter-style microblog service for creative, esoteric, open-minded types, working a full time job, and going to school part time. The affiliate marketing was supposed to be a way to make extra money and for a while it was kind of fun even though the extra dough did not exactly roll in, but it's been more burden than fun for several months now.

The second factor that pushed the decision was actually a comment made by an anonymous LOSER on the Kill My Job blog at http://twitpwr.com/affiliate about how much my blog sucks. I happen to know this individual is a loser because of their cowardly hit-and-run anonymous comment and the fact that if they weren't a loser, they'd be too busy with their own life to be leaving cowardly hit and run comments. My response was admissibly juvenile as hell, and yet I must say, funny. It began with "By Satan's balls." Nuff said.

Not that I am kowtowing to anonymous Loser. Frankly, I could give a rat's butt if people think KMJ or any of my blogs/websites/projects suck. But the fact is, I don't have time to work on that blog. I'll continue to keep it as a repository for certain of my utters, but I'm not going to devote any time to it beyond that at this point. As of today, it is officially retired or on permanent vacation.

I will continue to promote certain of the affiliate products I discovered that I really like, such as the Ultimate Recipe Collection (http://TwitPWR.com/…aterecipe/) through utters and Twitter, but am no longer going to make a concerted effort in the affiliate marketing field. What I've been doing is more than a touch too much. I need to concentrate on my literary and activist efforts, spreading the word about religious tolerance and better mental health care worldwide.

So if there's a lesson that I'd like to impart from this it's the old "to thine own self be true." If you're doing too many things, evaluate what really has meaning for you and then throw yourself into that wholeheartedly.

Thanks for "listening." Peace to you.

Affordable PPC Advertising on Facebook

Facebook offers PPC and CPM advertising. Your budget can be as low as a dollar a day and one cent per click.
It's my son's fault that I joined Facebook. He said it's the easiest way for him to keep up with people now that he's in college. I had sworn that I would never join Facebook. But now I'm glad I did.
There are also people like magazine publishers that are members. If you go to my profile, (look up Lily Strange) you will find John Guilfoil. He's the publisher of Blast Magazine. Of course you can also just look up John Guilfoil if you prefer.
Facebook isn't as "pretty" as MySpace. But it's actually pretty easy to use. Or probably is if you aren't a tech-tard like me. I'm still learning!

Affordable Advertising on...MySpace

MySpace has a new advertising program, and it's actually affordable. Unlike Google, and similar PPC programs, where you have to commit a certain amount a day to your ad budget, with MySpace, you outline a TOTAL budget that you can afford and you don't pay for impressions, only for actual clicks. When you're out of clicks, the ad stops, and you can start the campaign again when you can pay again. Makes a lot of sense when you're a struggling artist, author, entrepreneur, musician, or what have you.
The minimum campaign budget is $25, but even I can afford that. This will give me about 81 clicks before the campaign halts. I can start the campaign again at any time. I can design new campaigns too, using their Ad Designer. Or if you're really savvy, just create your own ads according to their size specifications and upload them.
MySpace does not accept porn, so unfortunately no help for you Adult affiliates. (Porn Baboon and friends have a helpful blog for adult affiliates here.) But for childish adults like me, this is a great form of affordable advertising for the "little" guy and gal.
Check out my Myspace profile, if you care to.

Outskirts Press Plug

As the first draft of the second book nears completion (well, sort of) I have again signed on with Outskirts Press for the publication of the second book, which will probably be released in 2010.
Many different packages are available and they publish almost everything, except for porn and hate literature. If you have something in the works, you might want to check them out for yourself.
There are companies out there who allow you to publish your book "free," but you will still have to pay for printing, storage and promotion. In the long run, I find that I'd pay about as much anyway and having a reliable publisher is worthwhile to me.

I guess...

That this blog has it's uses after all, though it isn't very often.
This is a letter I wrote to the X-Zone radio. They feature various paranormal topics.

Greetings,
I hope this doesn't appear too arrogant, as I am really not an arrogant individual, but the guest I would like to suggest is myself. My name is Lily Strange and I am a clairsentient medium who wrote a book with the help of a spirit. The book is horror fiction but it also contains elements of truth. My co-author is a very interesting and unique man who committed suicide in 1991 when he could no longer endure his troubled life. We made contact with one another in 2005. I was working on editing a book at the time and he started giving me suggestions. Quite by accident, we became co-authors. If this sounds at all interesting, feel free to visit our website at http://www.lilystrange.com to find out more.
I also do Tarot and other divination readings and would be interested in being a guest reader if you would have the need. While I don't consider myself a professional reader, I've been told by those I've done readings for that I have a good accuracy rate. I go into great detail and treat every client's question as if it had personal meaning for me. To look at some of my readings for an idea of what I do, I have a blog at http://lilyscrystalball.blogspot.com
Unfortunately at this point most of the readings on the blog are those I have done for myself as I do not have a vast client base, but it will give an idea of the style I use. I also have a page at http://www.mysticvision.org
If I sound like someone you would like to interview, I would love to hear from you. You can contact me either at this email address or at (666) 555-4444.
If I don't sound like someone you would like to interview, I would love to hear a quote of your advertising rates so I could potentially advertise with you.
Blessings,
Lily

Big Crawl is a pay-per-click search engine that also features a banner exchange. If you scroll down to the bottom of the blog, you'll see one of their banners. It's free to sign up. The one thing that's a pain is that you have to sign up for the pay-per-click and banner exchange services separately. There is also a reciprocal link exchange service. In order to sign up for this, your website must be related to internet advertising, marketing, or web traffic.

Kindling a Headache

I accidentally found the page that made it possible to publish my content for Amazon Kindle and I was excited. I did it, entered the price, and it is supposed to be available to users within 24-48 hours. Yep...
I went online to search for the link so I could provide it to visitors to my webpage. Lo and behold, the damn thing isn't available yet. I went searching for help. There is no customer service for this process. The best you'll find is a forum that tells you they're working out the bugs. My head officially hurts now.
Also, whenever you find an area in Amazon to work on anything besides buying products, make sure to bookmark it. It will not be easy to find again.
The link to publish on Kindle is http://dtp.amazon.com
To start an Amazon Connect account, go to http://amazon.com/connect
Then bookmark both of these. Believe me, you'll thank me later.
I guess I'll go play with my webpage now. I really had wanted to provide the Kindle link for another option for purchase, but since there ain't one yet, I can't work with what ain't there, now can I?
I seriously don't know what I was smoking when I thought that simply publishing the book would open tons of doors. I need me a locksmith kit!

Promotion and Integrity

This is a lazy post--this was actually an email reply to someone who suggested I should send my book to Ellen Degeneres. While I would greatly enjoy meeting Ellen in person because unlike Oprah she seems to have maintained her "realness," I don't think appearing on a television show would work for me. I'd have to wear some lame disguise because I don't want people to know what I look like. Paranoia aside, here is material that is a bit more logical and does in fact apply to promotion.

Hello,
I'll have the book on its way tomorrow. You're so right about being patient--heh, me patient! I was even born early because I couldn't wait! And in the middle of a blizzard, yet. Nothing like starting a stormy life in the middle of a blizzard.
I don't think that any of the major talk shows would even take notice of something that anyone who wasn't an agent sent them. I suppose I need to think about trying to get an agent. I've been reluctant because the instant you have agents involved, you lose a huge portion of your autonomy. I have an editor (actually my ex husband--we're amicably divorced) who, while helping me make the book more readable, did not try to curtail what I wanted to say because he knew it was important to me. I also discovered that there are actually at least two authors to every book--the writer(s) and the editor. But a good editor will never try to make you sacrifice your message. Sometimes agents and publishers sacrifice the message to create a commercially appealing product.
I've been looking to advertise in horror and heavy metal publications and should start looking into new age publications too. The amount of time one has to spend on promotion is light years beyond what I ever imagined! I now feel the need to get the message out to warn future writers--you must also become a promoter.
I suppose it's like anything else. The great Henry Rollins (Black Flag and the Rollins Band) has his own small publishing company as well as touring with his band and doing spoken word shows, and he acts on the side for fun. He said of acting that he'd have his ego deflated a lot if he was trying to do it as a profession because there is a huge potential for rejection--in fact you get rejected most of the time. I guess its the same thing with writing.
I should approach book stores in person, but the fact is that I'm so shy that I'm almost crippled by it when it comes to talking to people on that level. Pathetic, I know. If I could afford counseling I would get it.
Anyway, the book will be on its way tomorrow and I hope you enjoy it.
Lily

Aha!

My, but I'm excited. A rare state of mind these days, to be sure. So I'll take it where I can get it.
A friend inadvertently gave me the idea of advertising my book's existence in horror magazines. Abra-ca-duh! I don't know if it will get me anywhere, but freaking Adwords certainly wasn't doing anything but taking my hard earned and painfully rare cash. I'll let you all know what transpires.
